Street Smarts: How Well Do You Know Your Streets?
Manor Road
Understatedly Cool
This stretch of East Austin is laid back and simply fun, an ideal place to take the whole family out to dinner and still enjoy the atmosphere or post up for a cocktail or coffee (or both) after work with the family dog underfoot.
Thunderbird is a long-standing coffee spot and local hang. Serving the Eastside since 2006, this favorite is a welcoming place to get any day started. For years, the fluffy pastries at S-H Donuts have been pleasing Eastsiders as a morning stop on their way to work or a weekend delight to enjoy. Mi Madre’s first opened its doors in the 90s and has been serving Eastsider’s Tex-Mex for decades. Our favorites include their migas or breakfast tacos served alongside a cinnamon café de olla. The adjacent School House Pub is a perfect low-key way to cap off the night.
For those looking for something new, a coastal seafood restaurant from the minds behind Suerte recently opened in the former East Side Café location. Este is a high-end experience, perfect for special occasions or those who are highly invested in the local culinary scene.
Butterfly Bar, attached to beloved local theatre The Vortex, is a particularly inviting spot to enjoy a craft cocktail and a bite to eat at the Italian food truck Patrizi’s. Or visit Oddwood Brewing for family pizza and pints night and old-school gaming fun, or hit up Batch for a kolache and a cold one and a game of bocce ball in their backyard.
It’s hard to pick just one of these favorites to visit on a given day—so don’t! Enjoy sampling each of these local faves all year long on this low-key street.
