While there is never a shortage of seasonal food and drink offerings during the holidays, Whisler’s spiked spin on traditional hot chocolate is truly unique.
Since opening in 2013, Whisler’s has been a neighborhood go-to for thoughtfully crafted cocktails in an approachable environment. The intimate interior and bustling patio space combine the best of both worlds and serve as a welcoming watering hole to Austinites. While the East Sixth Street bar offers inventive cocktails all year round, Whisler’s seasonal options are no exception to their mouth-watering offerings.
Back again this winter is the Oaxacan Hot Chocolate. Crafted with a family recipe that’s been passed down for generations, the Oaxacan Hot Chocolate cocktail features whole milk, Mexican chocolate, and cayenne mixed with El Silencio Mezcal and Grand Marnier. Topped with a hearty serving of whipped cream that slowly melts into the warm chocolate, plus a light and flaky cookie for dipping, the cocktail is reminiscent of a childhood favorite. Those looking for an adult beverage will appreciate the addition of mezcal along with the spicy notes of cayenne that take this winter time sip up a notch by adding to the warmth and flavor.
What would the holiday season be without giving? Whisler’s has a special Toys for Tots menu, and a portion of sales from items of this menu will be donated to Toys for Tots. The Oaxacan Hot Chocolate is one of three drinks on the special Toys for Tots menu. Additional cocktails on the special menu are Mama’s Eggnog, which is cognac spiked eggnog, and Mr. Kringle, a mix of bourbon, vermouth, amaro, and maple. The limited edition Whisler’s holiday mug in which the hot chocolate is served is also available for purchase.
