East Austin Studio Tour Survival Guide
Tips for navigating EAST this weekend and next
Words by Sam Lauron
The East Austin Studio Tour may be self-guided, but a few tips can go a long way and help you get the most out of your tour experience.
Download the app
Consider the EAST app your on-the-go resource for all of the information you’ll need throughout the tour. This handy tool features an interactive map of all the stops, a complete list of participants, and a calendar of event happenings that will be going on during each weekend. If you have a few must-see stops on your list, then you can even save them to a list of favorites on the app for quick reference.
Visit the Group Exhibition
Start your day off at the hub for this year’s East Austin Studio Tour, Springdale General. This is where you can grab your copy of the catalog (the catalog can also be found at the Big Medium Gallery at 916 Springdale Rd.) and get a preview of all of the artists who will be exhibiting on the tour. And if you make it there on Saturday, November 10th between 9:30-11am, you can enjoy complimentary food and drink at EAST’s Community Breakfast. | 1023 Springdale Rd, 11A
Take a break
Making your way through the numerous studios, galleries and happenings can be exhausting, so it’s important to take breaks and stay nourished. Whether you’re starting your morning off with coffee, grabbing a bite in between studio visits, or ending the day with a beer, there are plenty of local businesses located in and around the EAST areas that you can pop into to recharge.
Park like a local
When it comes to navigating the tour, most areas are easily walkable. But to get from neighborhood to neighborhood you may need to drive. To help ensure that you aren’t spending all of your time looking for a spot, determine where to park on the Eastside before heading out.
