Reimers Ranch

As the largest parkland acquisition in Travis County’s history, Reimers Ranch has become one of the more popular destinations for outdoor activities. The park includes almost three miles of land along the Pedernales River, with numerous hiking trails and water activities, like swimming and fishing. Perhaps what the park is most known for, however, is the more than 18 miles of biking trails and its natural rock formations.
Almost 300 climbing routes can be found throughout the park, ranging between 5.4 and 5.14 in difficulty. The majority of routes also have bolts, anchors, and fixed cable draws already in place, which make it easy for climbers to experience popular routes with the necessary safety precautions. While most routes follow courses along the limestone cliffs in the area surrounding the Pedernales River, every route’s terrain is different, making the park accessible to both experienced climbers and beginners.
Though overnight camping isn’t allowed, those looking for an evening activity can visit Reimers Observatory. The observatory, which opened its doors in 2015 and offers astronomy programs for visitors of all ages, features two large telescopes, the first measuring 25-inches in diameter, the second, 15-inches in diameter. During the two-hour program, visitors may see constellations, planets, and possibly satellites and learn about astronomy from observatory staff.
Taking just under an hour to drive from East Austin, Reimers Ranch is a top contender for day-trips amongst Austinites.

The Ranch & More
Open from 8am to twilight every day, fees for entering the park vary from $10 to $15 per vehicle, the latter being for weekends and summer holidays. Like most parks, credit cards are not accepted. While grilling is encouraged, guests are reminded that grills must be above ground and are only permitted to burn gas and charcoal.
For those looking for a full weekend getaway, there are still plenty of camping options nearby, like Pace Bend Park about 30-minutes away. Also around the area, there’s plenty to do and see, like Hamilton Pool. The breathtaking reservation-only destination is just right around the corner. Dripping Springs and Spicewood are also within a short drive, each with an array of lodging options, restaurants, and places to visit, like one of the many vineyards, distilleries, and breweries in the surrounding area.
