Local outdoor company Kammok creates products designed to elevate time outside in order to establish better mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness for their customers.
Kammok’s founder and CEO Greg McEvilly’s love for camping spurred the creation of the successful outdoor lifestyle brand. It all started years ago when Greg and his brother planned a whitewater rafting trip on which they brought hammocks for sleeping along the banks of the Rio Grande in Mexico. While on that trip, he fell in love with hammock camping and found himself thinking about how he could use hammocks more in his daily life. He reflects on how he felt at that stage in his life, thinking, “How can I increase my own flourishing and bring this feeling into my everyday life?” Greg’s desire to recreate his experience while camping for himself and others is the driving factor behind his business.
When the hammock he took to the Rio Grande broke on the last night of his trip, Greg realized that there was a gap in the market. He envisioned “a business focused on the triple bottom line that could rival big brands someday like Patagonia and North Face but also really focuses on humans flourishing by elevating time outside in the everyday—not just in the epic backcountry experiences.”

The Roo Double was their first hammock, and they have since expanded the brand, selling a number of other outdoor products. Greg says, “We are an outdoor lifestyle brand on a mission to elevate time outside.” While Kammok has a committed customer base all over the world, lovingly dubbed their “tribe of outsiders,” they are based on the Eastside where the Kammok team enjoys connecting in-person with customers at their headquarters and flagship store on East 7th.

Greg notes, “We believe that people everywhere should have access to time outside on a daily basis because it is restorative and important for health.” He adds, “At the core of our mission, we are an outdoor wellness brand.” Furthermore, the Kammok team takes sustainability seriously. Did You Know?
The name “Kammok” was accidentally conceived by Greg while sharing his new concept with his wife. After saying “camping hammock” enough times, he accidentally said Kammok, and they both immediately knew that was the name of his company.
