Pilates At Home
Exercising the Mind and Body
Words by Alison Bryce
Staying at home for days at a time can lead many to start feeling restless and anxious. Routines have been broken, gyms have been closed, and more people are turning to the internet for workout videos, creating a “new” way of exercising and gaining movement.
Charlie Qureshi, the Master Trainer at Club Pilates East Austin, is helping people transition from brick studios to virtual workouts. Though the studio is currently closed, Charlie and other Club Pilates’ instructors are uploading a variety of videos which lead viewers through simple at-home stretches and workouts which require little to no equipment. By focusing primarily on moves that inspire calmness, Charlie and her fellow studio instructors are bringing a sense of peace during so much unknown.
All of the workouts are available to the public. Viewers can scroll through the studio’s Facebook page to watch videos emphasizing the importance of breathing through stretches to “Pilates on the Wall.” The studio also participates in Facebook Live videos on Club Pilates GO multiple times a week. These live workouts range from 20-45 minutes.
Not only do the videos provide exercises for viewers to do at home, it also serves as a way to connect to the community and continue providing resources to those who attended classes regularly before COVID-19 required the studio to temporarily close. People are encouraged to comment and share what exercises they would like to see.
Whether wanting to work on your flexibility or looking for relaxing exercises, the videos created by Charlie and her team provide something for everyone.
