#7: Cambodia
Once the site of the powerful Khmer kingdom, Cambodia is filled with architectural treasures and is home to more than 4,000 temples. Perhaps none are quite as grand as Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site sacred to Cambodian Buddhism and Tomb Raider fans everywhere (the Ta Prohm Temple features prominently in the film).
I find myself daydreaming about being one of the only people experiencing the magic of sunrise over the temples before all the crowds return. Siem Reap is the perfect home base for exploring Angkor and the region’s cultural riches, and it’s also a place where you can waste away an afternoon in an open-air cafe watching orange clad monks zoom by on tuk tuks. Combine your time there with a dash of adventure at Shinta Mani Wild tented camp near Cardamom National Park and some R&R in an overwater bungalow at Song Saa Private Island.
