With National Ice Cream Month commencing, it’s time to get your hands on the best ice cream around town. Luckily, East Austin is home to a number of ice cream shops serving up a variety of treats, from dairy-free to classic scoops. National Ice Cream Day is officially taking place July 21st, so mark your calendars and plan to visit one of these shops to celebrate.
Prohibition Creamery
While ice cream typically conjures up an image of the sprinkle-covered cones enjoyed as a kid, Prohibition Creamery takes ice cream to another level with their alcohol-infused treats. Ice cream here offers just the right amount of sweet and boozy with flavors like Bourbon, Sangria, and Whiskey with Brownie Bites.

Lick Honest Ice Creams
Lick Honest Ice Creams strives to live up to its name by serving artisan-made ice cream mixed with locally-sourced ingredients. Their farm-to-table approach allows them to work with local farmers and artisans to create fresh ice cream inspired by Central Texas and its seasonal flavors like Caramel Salt Lick or Hill Country Honey and Vanilla Bean. The shop even offers dairy-free and vegan flavors.

Gelateria Gemelli
After dining at one of the many restaurants that East 6th Street has to offer, take a stroll over to Gelateria Gemelli. Flavors at this modern gelato shop include classics like Mango Sorbetto, dark chocolate, or strawberry and more inventive twists like Earl Grey or Vietnamese coffee. You can even take it up a notch by pairing your scoop with an espresso or something more on the boozier side, like an Amaro.

Sweet Ritual
Dairy-free is the name of the game at Sweet Ritual. The ice cream shop has been serving dairy-free, small batch ice cream since 2011 using scratch ingredients to make vegan scoops, shakes, and sundaes. Sweet Ritual even keeps everything environmentally-friendly by only serving compostable products like bowls, straws, and spoons. Innovative flavors include Unicorn Poop, a bright pink scoop made with beets, vanilla, and skittles and topped with rainbow sprinkles.
