Ask an Expert {Wax That}
Q&A With Waxing + Wellness Guru Lorie Young
Wax That on Manor Road incorporates a more holistic wellness approach to their beauty services. They believe that self-care is a sacred act and that forming beauty rituals is a key part of self-love. Wax That is a place where guests can come to relax, meditate, and remember they are beautiful.
What is one thing you would tell me before getting a wax if it’s my first time?
Breathe. It’s been said by nearly every client after their appointment: “It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.” Our technicians are highly trained and skilled. They are excellent at what they do, but more importantly, they are all delightful. Their talent in making you feel comfortable or cracking a joke at the perfect time will keep you at ease.
Where do you feel that waxing fits into a self-care routine?
Beautification is an expression of self-love and gratitude for yourself. At Wax That, we believe that waxing is a sacred ritual. We want to provide the best possible space and experience for men and women to feel good, relax and enjoy our services.
What’s one common misconception that a lot of people have about waxing?
Unfortunately, the media has portrayed waxing as an excruciatingly painful service. In reality, this is not the case at all. We tend to clients who may be nervous or scared and guide them through a process that is much less painful than expected. That’s why having trust in your technician and waxing salon is a key component to a great waxing experience. Our Brazilian waxing service, for instance, can be done in 15 minutes or less with a waxing specialist!
Does waxing make hair grow back in thicker?
This is not true! But a very common misconception. Depending on your genetics, waxing can actually reduce your hair growth over time, especially the more you come in for the service.
Other than waxing, what else do you provide your clients?
We provide clients coming into our studio with a unique trio of rituals as part of their appointment. Our technicians offer acupressure, aromatherapy, and crystal therapy during all of our services. This goes back to our philosophy about overall wellness and self-love—it’s not just about getting a wax, but taking time for yourself to recharge, refresh, and feel good.
One of the other popular services that we provide is lash and brow tinting. Clients often come in for an eyebrow wax and then get a brow tint as well. Another service that some people might not know about is our men’s services! We are one of the only waxing salons in Austin that offers men’s brief waxing.
Was there a reason why you picked Manor Road for your second location?
I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Cherrywood. The neighborhood has an amazing vibe, and we are excited to join so many awesome local businesses in the area. Opening our second location in the Eastside was a no brainer.
