Ask An Expert: Q&A with Mash Movers
The Packing & Moving Experts with Seth Whaland, Founder of Mash Movers
Q: Are you licensed and insured?
Yes! We are fully licensed and insured to move in Texas.
Q: How long have you been in the moving business?
I started as a mover in Philadelphia over a decade ago and have worked for moving companies in Philly, Los Angeles, and Boulder. I started Mash Movers in 2016 and have been moving folks in and around Austin since!
Q: Can you provide references from previous customers?
Absolutely, check out our reviews on Google and Yelp to see what folks have to say about our services.
Q: What services do you offer?
We offer everything from moving a single piece of furniture to full service packing and moving. Each move is unique so we try to fit our services to meet each of our customer’s needs.
Q: Do you specialize in local or long-distance moves?
We specialize in local moves, as well as being available to move anywhere within the state of Texas.
Q: Can you provide a detailed written estimate?
Of course! We offer free quotes, and we try to be very transparent in terms of what and how we charge. Our rates are hourly, so the cost depends on the length of the move. We always ask for as many details as we can ahead of the move, both so we can be as prepared as possible and so we can give as accurate an estimate ahead of the move.
Q: How do you determine the cost of the move?
Our hourly rate is based on how many movers we send to the job, and then the hours are based on how long the move takes.! We do charge some travel time. This is to cover our drive to and from the move, but otherwise, we have no other costs or fees. Just the hourly rate x the total hours for the job, which are rounded to the nearest quarter hour to be as fair as possible.
Q: Are there any additional fees or hidden charges?
None! We always give our customers the hourly rate ahead of the move, as well as the amount of travel time we might add to the move. Our hourly rate includes the movers, the truck, gas, tax, everything. However, if our customers would like to add packing to the move, we do charge for supplies (boxes, tape, etc), and we can share our supply price list ahead of the move as well.
Q: What measures do you take to protect belongings during the move?
When we pack your residence we arrive with all the boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, tape, blankets and anything else we might need to keep your things safe during the move. Our packing team is trained to pack the perfect box — not too heavy, no extra space in the box, plenty of protection for fragile items as the box gets moved from your old home to your new home! On moves the crew shows up with a truck stocked with moving blankets, plastic wrap, dollies, straps and tools. Everyone is trained on best techniques for carrying heavy items, and blanketing & securing them on the truck during transportation.
Q: Do you use subcontractors or your own employees?
We never use subcontractors. All of Mash Movers are highly trained moving professionals. And truly, we are proud of the people we hire and strive to have the nicest, most respectful, strong and hard working movers in Austin.
Q: What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
We know that moving can be stressful and try to work knowing that occasionally things change at the last minute. We don’t take a deposit and we don’t accept payment until the job is completed. We just ask for as much heads up as possible if times or dates change.
Q: How do you handle delays or unforeseen circumstances?
We will always work with our customers to find a solution when delays or other surprises pop up. Many of the surprises that happen during a move we have seen before and so we can draw on that experience to solve the problem as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Q: What is the process for filing a claim for damaged or lost items?
We do everything we can to limit damages, but in the event they do happen we will always work with you to repair or replace the item, or if it’s a more significant damage, to work with you and our insurance company to find a resolution.
Q: What is your policy regarding fragile or valuable items?
Please let us know about any items that are specifically fragile, valuable or sentimental. We will always take the extra step with an item to make sure it arrives in the same condition as when we picked it up.
Q: Will you provide a dedicated moving coordinator or point of contact?
The Mash Movers number goes to our office where someone is always available. The crew that’s on your move will also be in touch on the day of the move to let you know about arrival times and answer any additional questions that pop up on moving day.
Q: Do you offer packing supplies, or can you recommend where to purchase them?
We do offer packing supplies! However, we also work with Bronko Box, a local company, who offers reusable boxes that they will deliver ahead of your move, we can pack them, and then they pick them up when you’re all unpacked! Like magic.
Q: What is the estimated timeframe for the move?
This depends on a lot of factors. Studios and one-bedrooms typically take 2-3 hours, while three-bedroom houses can take 6-8 hours. If you visit our website, www.mashmovers.com we can get some information from you to give you a free quote.
Q: What steps do you take to ensure the safety of your employees during the move?
We train everyone on the best carrying techniques and ways to communicate while carrying heavy items. And then hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
Q: How do you handle bulky or oversized items?
We keep furniture dollies and hand trucks on our truck to help with XL items. Our trucks also have a liftgate, which is a huge help for very heavy items. We are pretty strong, too!
Q: What measures do you have in place to address customer complaints or issues?
This is a small company, and we are here to talk! If our moving crew can’t fix the issue, our office is available to help resolve any issues. Stewart, our GM, and myself, are always available as well.
Q: What’s the best way to book my move?
You can call, text, or email us any time. We also have a “Book Your Move” option on our website that will show you available dates & times and you can use it to reserve your move any time of day or night.
