We sat down with one of our expert travel editors to ask all your burning travel questions.
Christopher Ferguson is a writer, photographer, and architect who has lived in Austin since 2008. He is passionate about empowering people and their communities through dialogue and great design.
What place is at the top of your bucket list?
CF: Honestly, I’ve been wanting to tour Pripyat, Ukraine, and the Chernobyl site. I know; I have horrible timing.
Out of all the places you’ve travelled, what destination has the best food?
CF: Probably New York City!
What’s the most meaningful trip you’ve ever taken?
CF: Visiting an incredible monastery called La Tourette as an architecture student just outside of Lyon, France. It was kind of a pilgrimage for a student in love with architecture, and my group was lucky enough to spend several nights there.
What’s your favorite souvenir from all your travels?
CF: Is it cliché to say my passports? I collect trinkets and the occasional pretty rock from places I visit, but nothing beats getting a new stamp or visa in the book.
Out of all the places you’ve visited, what’s your favorite locale?
CF: Buenos Aires! Late night bar-hopping in Palermo had some fun characters.
What’s your best memory/experience from all your travels?
CF: That’s tough! I spent a semester in Paris as an undergrad, and I remember eating a baguette on top of the Arc de Triomphe very late at night with my roommate on my last night there. We were the only two people around; there was something ephemeral about that moment that I find myself thinking about years later. Might have also just been a really good baguette.
What’s your favorite airline for travel?
CF: Tie between Emirates and Qatar Airways. Emirates has a full bar in the rear of business class!
What do you like about solo travel?
CF: I end up meeting more people! I still keep in contact with a few friends I’ve met traveling, and I met them all on solo trips.
What do you like about group trips?
CF: I like the spontaneity that groups can have. And, obviously, it’s just always fun to share rich travel experiences with others.
What do you enjoy most about working with EASTside Magazine?
CF: The private jet! Jokes aside, the ability to learn about and interview some of the most interesting and influential Austinites is very fulfilling.
What destination are you off to next?
CF: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for business, and hopefully Barcelona this summer for pleasure.
