6 Reasons Galentine’s Day is the Superior Holiday
Move over, V-Day.
Words by Abby L. Johnson
Though this yearly celebration has its origins in a TV comedy (thanks, Leslie Knope!), it’s taken on a serious life of its own. While Valentine’s Day can be lovely, there are a plethora of reasons to celebrate the women in your life and honor their friendship.
No Pink Necessary
There are no expectations when it comes to Galentine’s Day apparel. So, whether you want to lean into pink hearts and frills or prefer to keep it comfy, your friends aren’t judging your duds.
Celebrate the Way You Want
Traditional ways to celebrate V-Day are plentiful so you can pick and choose which to incorporate (if any) into your gal pal celebration. Take your closest friends out to a fancy dinner at Justine’s Brasserie or Taquero Mucho, have a good, old-fashioned slumber party with takeout margs from Hopdoddy’s—or whatever floats your boat.
Rom-Coms Galore
Let’s face it. Some partners just don’t get why you watch When Harry Met Sally over and over. Your besties, however, are always down for popcorn and quoting along to the group’s favorite movie. We highly recommend the Dill Pickle Popcorn from Cornucopia, but they also have a Champagne Pop for this special occasion!
Friendships Don’t Have Other Special Occasions!
Romantic love often gets all the attention: anniversaries, engagement parties, weddings, etc. , all put the spotlight on the bond between two partners. But oftentimes, the most fruitful and cherished relationships in our lives are friendships that are just as, if not more, important.
Low Pressure, Low Stakes
A holiday all about romance and displays of affection can put a lot of unnecessary pressure on a relationship. On Galentine’s Day, you only have to be yourself. Surround yourself with your favorite people, and let them know their friendship is valuable.
Science Says Single Ladies May Be the Happiest.
Several behavioral psychologists have argued in recent years that singledom for women isn’t a sentence to loneliness. Rather, it leads to increased levels of reported happiness that might be attributable to stronger social ties with friends. Whether or not you are happily partnered, the joy that friendships deliver deserves the recognition it’s due.
